Greetings! My name is Hadeel AlQahtani, and I study UX design at Misk Academy. Our team is working on a project for a mobile application named “Explore” for outdoor activities in Saudi Arabia. I would like to acknowledge my teammates Abrar Hassan, Budoor Alshuaibi, Dalal Alsayel, and Hajar Alhilali for their work on the project.

The brief

The Saudi Arabian environment is diverse, including mountains, seas, and deserts, which offer an amazing experience for any adventurer who wants to experience outdoor activities, there is a huge opportunity and a problem that needs to solve to deliver those activities to the adult adventurer and to offer an easy way to connect with nature and meet new people using “explore” app.

The Problem

The adventurous adults are not aware of the outdoor activities in Saudi Arabia and want to experience them when they have free time.

The Solution

Our solution should provide a way to connect people with outdoor activities and creating an online community to share experiences using A mobile App.

Key Feature

  • Browse the activities

Users can browse through the activities available in Saudi Arabia and see reviews of each activity, while they can also filter the results by city and type of activity.

  • Book an activity

The app allows the users to choose what activities they want to participate in, and then they get a barcode to make a reservation after checkout.

  • Find your Community

We have many groups where the users will find others who share their passion for adventure and discovering new things.

  • Share the experience

Users can share their experiences and ratings about the activities so that other users can get useful information.

User Research (The Survey Result)

Our survey sought to find out which age ranges are most interested in outdoor activities and which activities are popular in Saudi Arabia, and which day of the week they prefer to enjoy outdoor activity, and if they like to follow up on new activities through a website or app, and we gathered the following stats:

  • 62% of those aged 19 to 30.
  • The most popular activities are walking 72%, swimming 43%, and horseback riding 39%.
  • 41% of them prefer to experience outdoor activities on the weekends.
  • 84% of them did not find enough outdoor activities ads.
  • 79% of them prefer to use an app instead of a website

User Interview

we interviewed 7 people and asked them about:

  • Describe your daily activities
  • What is your favorite time or season to do your outdoor activities?
  • Tell me about your outdoor activity that you like.
  • How does the income affect your outdoor activities?
  • In your perspective How can we know about the advertising for outdoor activities?
  • What you might learn about outdoor activities?
The user's answers

Based on their answers, we wrote insights of our interviews and drew our affinity map

Then we generate our insight statements

User Feedback

we tested the prototype on real users, and we found informative comments to develop our prototype, for example:

  • Activity details page: The time was not clear and there was no quantity button.
  • Share your experience page: Our user suggested merging the attachment button and the picture into one button, and also adding a section for reviews and ratings.
  • Main buttons: “There is no cart?” after the feedback we added a cart button.

Future Development

  • A Platform for organizations or individuals who provides services or outdoor activities.
  • A rewards program whether codes, coupons, or points to encourage our adventurous adults to practice their favorite activities and promote loyalty to our app.

Thank you
